Steel arch buildings, or Quonsets as they are commonly known, have been available in North America since the very early 1930's in one form or another. Originally designed to be circular or "arch" shaped using steel panels over a structural steel frame, later designs used corrugated steel panels and eventually a frameless self supporting panel arch system was invented which simplified manufacturing and construction thereby reducing costs and made the steel arch building very competitive with other building choices. Used mainly for storage by the military and government agencies before becoming widely accepted by farming, industrial and even residential end users, steel arch buildings have evolved to become one of the best solutions for utility buildings available on the market today.
The modern steel arch building is available in a variety of sizes from 10' wide up to 100'+ in width, any length in 2' increments and a choice of shapes including straight walls, slanted walls, gable shapes and the original circular shape. Arch buildings are clear span with no internal supports so that the interior is completely unobstructed, unlike conventional structural steel which have thick columns at the sides or wood framed buildings which have deep truss chords overhead that prevent using the space above the top of the walls. Combined with straight walls, the clear span space allows use of the complete floor area right up to the outside walls.
Q Model E Model S Model A Model Arch buildings very inexpensive to buy, simple to build and less expensive to ship than conventional structural steel buildings, and with the recent development of steel foundation systems can be erected any time of the year, can be temporary or permanent depending on the site requirements without using expensive concrete. Spray-on or blanket insulation allows steel arch buildings to be climate controlled enabling them to be used for any purpose, not just storage or shelter from the elements. Accessories include steel forming systems, steel foundations, man doors, overhead and roll-up doors, hydraulic doors, roof or wall mounted ventilation, skylights, interior liner panel packages and other options.
